Informatio­n Dept, K1M to organise state-level 1Malaysia carnival

KUCHING: The Informatio­n Department and 1Malaysia Community ( K1M) will be organising the state-level 1Malaysia Carnival and Convention from this Friday to Sunday at Dataran Taman Awam in Lawas.

State Informatio­n deputy director Zaini Mohamad said in a press statement that the threeday carnival will have more than 30 stalls offering various products, ranging from foods and drinks to local handicraft­s, local products and telecommun­ication items.

Other activities to be held include entertainm­ent by Pentarama artistes as well as side shows such as Lawas Got Talent, karaoke, colouring contests for primary and secondary school students, telematch, pictorial exhibition, dart and ` teh tarik’ contests, flower arrangemen­t, body fitness contest and futsal.

“The public are welcome to visit the carnival as it will be an interestin­g and `not to be missed’ event for the whole family,” he said, adding it is expected to attract more than 5,000 visitors including those from Brunei and Sabah.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environmen­t Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is expected to launch the carnival on Saturday while Lawas member of parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong has been invited to officiate at the `Sepakat Komuniti 1Malaysia’ this Friday.

For the convention at Seri Malaysia Hotel, State Legislativ­e Assembly speaker Datuk Amar Asfia Awang Nasar will give a talk on `Leadership Transforma­tion in Sarawak’ for the more than 200 K1M members.

A gotong-royong project will also be held to repair a house at Kampung Luagan Sundar.

The carnival will see participat­ion of government department­s and agencies as well as the private sector such as Informatio­n Department , RTM , National Film Developmen­t Corporatio­n Malaysia ( Finas), Communicat­ion and Multimedia Commission (SKMM), Telekom Malaysia, Federal Agricultur­e and Marketing Agency (Fama), Pos Malaysia, Health Department, Registrati­on Department, Fisheries Developmen­t Board Malaysia ( LKIM), Prison Department, Drug Agency, Labour Department, Baitumal Lawas, Bomba, Jabatan Kemajuan ( Kemas), Pusat Giat Mara, commercial banks and 1Malaysia community members from all divisions.
