Golden Screen Cinemas now at Cityone Megamall

-

KUCHING: Having made the fi rst step into the state with the opening of 8-screen cineplex at Bintang Megamall Miri earlier in February, leading cinema chain Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) makes a quantum leap into Kuching with the opening of 10-screen GSC at CityOne Megamall yesterday.

GSC general manager Irving Chee said that in February, GSC Bintang Megamall Miri marked the first GSC cinema in the state (under the GSC Lite branding) which offers a more modest and easily accessible cinema for markets like Miri. It is also the first all-digital cinema in East Malaysia and GSC chain.

GSC continues its winning trend with the opening of the first GSC cinema here which has the largest screen count in the state and comes equipped with the first THX hall in East Malaysia.

“With a total of 1,876 seating capacity, inclusive of 20 wheelchair spaces, we hope to offer a better selection of movies for Kuching folks, and hopefully, a film festival or two for those with discerning taste in noncommercial foreign movies,” said Chee at the official opening yesterday.

THX certification standard was first developed by Lucas Film in the early 1980s to address the problems of movie playback. The THX certified halls undergo stringent criteria to ensure that the hall has minimum interference from facility noise, concession and adjacent auditoriums.

The equipment for the cinema is carefully selected for its performance level while the sets are set up to ensure a crisp, accurate cinema sound that is unaltered by excess reverberation.

In addition, the viewing angles, projector placement and screen illumination that results in optimum picture presentation enhances the overall movie experience in the THX hall.

Both GSC and the mall management invested over RM29 million in GSC CityOne Megamall here.

GSC plans to open a 10-screen Palm Mall in Seremban in the second quarter and a 11-screen GSC Nu Sentral, KL before year end. In 2014, GSC has already signed up for GSC IOI City Mall and GSC Aman Central, Kedah.

Online ticketing facility for both internet and mobile purchases will be available at this latest GSC cinema, including the SelfPrint service and auto-gate features to ensure convenience to cinema-goers.

In conjunction with the opening, the public can look forward to ‘Buy 2 Free 1’ vouchers with ticket purchase at the ticketing counters and free GSC Eco-bag with each purchase of GSC Combo 3 from yesterday onwards.

For tomorrow and Sunday, there will be fun on-ground activities such as character walkabouts, clown appearance, 3D Puzzle Game, Sand Art and balloon giveaways.

Among those present were Kenbest Group directors Stephen Long and Sim Ewe Kee as well as GSC deputy general manager Heng Beng Fatt.
