Sabah intrusion: Four more Filipinos charged

SEMPORNA: Four Filipinos were tentativel­y charged with offences related to the intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

Al Wazir Osman @ Abdul, Tani Lahad Dahi and Abd Hadi Mawan faced one charge of waging war against the Yang di- Pertuan Agong, which carries the death sentence under Section 121 of the Penal Code, and another charge of engaging in terrorism, which carries a life sentence and liable to a fine under Section 130KA of the Penal Code, upon conviction.

No plea were taken from them after the charges were read to them in the Suluk language before Sessions Court Judge Amelati Parnel, who acted as the magistrate at a special proceeding at the district police headquarte­rs.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hamdan Hamzah represente­d the prosecutio­n.

In Lahad Datu, Julham Rashid, 65, was charged with the same two offences at a special proceeding held at the district police headquarte­rs.

No plea was taken from him when the charge was read to him in the Suluk language before Lahad Datu Sessions Court Judge Rajalingam S S Maniam who acted as magistrate.

Lahad Datu Deputy Public Prosecutor Shukor Abu Bakar appeared for the prosecutio­n. The court granted the prosecutio­n’s applicatio­n under Section 177A (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code to transfer the cases to the High Court. — Bernama
