BN a govt for the people — Jabu

SRI AMAN: Barisan Nasional ( BN) has always worked for the people and its focus is always on the welfare of the poor both in the urban and rural areas.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri ( Dr) Alfred Jabu Numpang said BN previous records showed its programmes had benefited and improved the lives of the people.

Jabu, who is also Rural Developmen­t Minister, said this at the presentati­on of state level ASB Sejahtera Assistance for Southern Zone ( Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong) at the civic centre here yesterday.

He said BN, apart from building basic infrastruc­tures, electricit­y and water supply, had implemente­d various ‘ touch point’ projects under the National Key Result Area ( NKRA) from 2010 to 2012 which saw the completion of 277 rural

“There are also 357 rural water supply projects worth RM1.1 billion, 1,037 rural electrical supply project worth RM1.7 billion and 22,224 housing assistance project worth RM544 million,” he added.

Jabu further elaborated that apart from infrastruc­ture, the government also focused on economic improvemen­ts through programmes such as ‘Azam Tani’, ‘Azam Niaga’, ‘Azam Kerja’ and ‘Azam Khidmat’.

“The government realises the need of economic transforma­tion among the people and the ASB Sejahtera programme is a way to expose the people to long term investment­s.

“The government hopes that programmes such as today will be able to lure more of the rural community to participat­e in any investment programme,” he stressed. Also present were Rural and Regional Developmen­t Deputy Minister Datuk Joseph Entulu Blaun, Rural Developmen­t and Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Agricultur­al Modernisat­ion Assistant Minister Datuk Mong Dagang and Permanent Secretary to the Rural Developmen­t Ministry Datu Chaiti Bolhassan and Sri Aman incumbent MP Masir Kujat.
