PH wins Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election with 3,869 majority
HULU SELANGOR: Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao last night won the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election with a 3,869 majority.
The Election Commission (EC) announced that Pang polled 14,000 votes against Perikatan’s Khairul Azhari Saut’s 10,131.
Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainudin and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin lost their deposits after garnering 152 and 188 votes respectively.
The winner was announced by EC returning officer Yuhanas Auree Kamaruddin.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the Unity Government on the DAP candidate’s victory.
“Saudara (DAP secretarygeneral) Anthony Loke, congratulations on the victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu byelection ... a fight to victory... (and) now we defend that win,” he said.
Anwar, who is also PKR president, was speaking at PKR’s 25th anniversary celebration at Sentul Depot here on Saturday night.
The KKB seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, of DAP on March 21 due to cancer.
PKR Communications Director Fahmi Fadzil hailed the Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) victory as a ‘triple happiness’ success for the Unity Government.
He said PH’s triumph in defending the state seat adds another layer of joy to the celebrations, which include PKR’s 25th anniversary and the 78th anniversary of Umno.
“Tonight is significant in that it is also PKR’s 25th and Umno’s 78th anniversaries, so the Unity Government candidate’s win in KKB has given us ‘triple happiness’,” he said.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki also congratulated Pang.
