RM500k allocation proposed for repair, wiring works in SK Darau

KOTA KINABALU: The State Education Department has proposed an allocation from the federal government amounting RM500,000 to facilitate the repairing and wiring works of several facilities in SK Darau, Menggatal.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif who is also the Education Exco said the repairing and wiring works including a four-class dilapidate­d building that was classified as Scale 7 — buildings with old foundation­s can be hazardous.

SK Darau has always received attention from the Education Department, and repairing works have been done from time to time.

“However, there are classes that are classified as Scale 7, requiring a new building.

“While waiting for the proposed building under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the State Education Department has applied for RM500,000 to improve some of the needs in this school including the 7-scale building,” he said to reporters after visiting SK Darau on Thursday.

According to Arifin, the proposed three-storey building has 36 classrooms.

Meanwhile, the building that was classified as Scale 7 is a wooden structure that has been exposed to flash floods during rainy seasons.

Four classrooms in the building are currently occupied by Year 1 in the afternoon session and Year 4 in morning session.

Also present during the visit was Sabah Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin.

Meanwhile, after visiting SK Darau, Arifin also visited Sekolah Agama Negeri (SAN) Tebobon.

Arifin said a new building for the school has been proposed to the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains).
