Industries in Sabah continue to develop despite pandemic
KOTA KINABALU: Although Malaysia was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, industrial development in Sabah has grown 7.8 per cent, which contributes RM6 billion in total.
Deputy Chief Minister cum Industrial Development Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam said this is very encouraging as it illustrates the direction of the ministry which focuses on industries as a key generator by prioritizing natural resources over high value end products.
“This is in line with the aspiration of the Ministry of Industrial Development (MID), to continue to assist entrepreneurs, to grow local industries in their supply chains, from upstream raw materials to downstream end products.
“My ministry, through the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR) is always concerned about entrepreneurs and will continue to provide assistance which will hopefully increase productivity and indirectly increase employment opportunities,” he said when launching Jom Business Revive Expo Sabah 2021 at Karamunsing Exhibition Hall on Friday.
The event was organised by the Sabah Employers Association. He added the participation of expo by 42 entrepreneurs under MID and DIDR is an indication that there are various industries in Sabah in terms of products and services.
In fact, some develop their own licensed branches or franchise systems, which certainly prioritize high standards.
Running from 10th to 12th December, the event is supported by MID, SEDIA and Department of Industrial Development.
Exhibitors showcasing local products and services, including licensable business opportunities, aim to expose and inform the public of what local SMEs have to offer.
