PBS Melalap hopes interior students also benefit from laptop aid

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Melalap hopes students in the interior areas will also benefit from the state government’s Bantuan Ehsan Komputer (BAIK) initiative.

Deputy division chief Stanis Buandi said they welcome the BAIK initiative through which the government will distribute 10,000 laptops to Form Five and Six students from hardcore poor families throughout the state.

Stanis in a statement said the initiative will encourage the students to study harder and excel in their studies. The PBS organising secretary was commenting on the BAIK initiative announced by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.

Under the initiative, the State Government will distribute 10,000 laptops to Form Five and Six students who will be sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) examinations at the end of this year, from July 19 until Oct 18.

“This is the state government’s approach to help them so that they will not be left out of the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) programme,” Hajiji said, adding that under Phase One of BAIK, the laptops will be distributed to 9,842 students from the national secondary schools (SMK) and national vernacular secondary schools (SMJK) as well as 158 from the Sekolah Menengah Agama Negeri (SMAN).

“Those selected will be students whose parents or guardians are categorised as hardcore poor in the e-Kasih list,” he said.

Meanwhile the initiative was also welcomed by SMK Arshad Kota Belud’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), said its head Hasrina Wati Golkan.

The laptops, she said will greatly help out students whose parents cannot afford to purchase a computer for them.
