Residents of the Korina Sikuati village in Kudat leaving their flood-hit homes and heading to a flood relief facility at a school yesterday. More than 1,300 residents from 17 villages in Kudat have been evacuated.

KOTA KINABALU: More than 1,800 people from four districts have been evacuated from their homes after the areas were hit by flood since Monday night.

A statement from the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (Sabah) said Kudat topped the list with 1,361 people, from 17 villages, who are currently taking shelter at four flood relief centres.

A total of 386 people from 12 villages in Kota Marudu were also evacuated and placed at three flood relief centres, including Dewan Kampung Asin-Asin, SR. Advent Damai and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tandek.

Sixty eight people from 41 villages in Pitas are also taking shelter at two flood relief centres after their homes were hit by flood since Monday evening.

The Malaysia Civil Defence Force also received two landslide reports at Kampung Air and Kg Dumpirit in Kudat, while three landslides were reported in Layak-Layak, Jalan-LangkonPit­as and Jalan Rinasuk Unggol towards Kg Sosop in Pitas.

Some 24 roads in four districts were inaccessib­le by most vehicles due to the flood. The roads are Jalan Tamalang to Jalan Surau Lajong in Kudat, Jalan Langkon Pitas to Jalan Damai in Kota Marudu and Jalan Sosop Bai in Pitas, while 10 roads in Beaufort, namely from Jalan Baitam to Jambatan Baru were cut off due to high water level.

Three schools namely SK Bambangan, SK Sinoko and SK Pekan Membakut were also affected by the flood.

The Malaysia Civil Defence Force and other agencies are monitoring the situation from time to time.
