One import case in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new import case of Covid-19 in Kuching and the end of Jalan Abell cluster yesterday.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the case involves a local Sarawakian female student who returned from Kota Kinabalu via Kuching Internatio­nal Airport on Dec 11.

She tested negative for Covid19 in Sabah using the RTK Antigen test on Dec 9 as a predepartu­re requiremen­t.

Upon arrival at Kuching Internatio­nal Airport, she was screened for Covid-19 and underwent mandatory 14-day quarantine. Her rT-PCR test result returned positive on Dec 12.

The case who did not experience any signs or symptoms of infection has been admitted to the isolation ward at Sarawak General Hospital.

The latest case brought the cumulative total of positive cases in the state to 1,075.

Meanwhile, SDMC has declared the end of Jalan Abell Cluster in Kuching which involved 15 people including the index case after no new case was recorded in 28 days since the last positive case was detected.

No new cluster was recorded and the active clusters in the state are Besi Cluster, Greenhill Cluster and Wisma Saberkas Cluster all in Kuching.

There was no recovery and discharge for the day. 1,043 or 97.02 per cent of total cases have recovered and were discharged.

“A total of 13 cases are still being treated at hospitals’ isolation wards with 11 in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), one in Miri Hospital and one in Bintulu,” it said.

Ten new Person-UnderInves­tigation (PUI) were reported for the day with one still awaiting lab result, bringing the cumulative total of PUIs to 10,944.

As for Person-UnderSurve­illance (PUS), 538 individual­s have checked into hotels for compulsory quarantine Saturday bringing the total of PUS to 4,419 individual­s quarantine­d at 41 hotels and other quarantine centres.

To-date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered 38,444.With no deaths reported, the state’s death toll remains at 19 or 1.77 per cent of total cases.

Serian and Kuching districts are still yellow zones as there were a total three cases of local infection in the last 14 days, with two in Serian and one in Kuching. The other 38 districts in the state remain green.
