‘Avengers: Endgame’ crosses US$2 bln globally

ON FRIDAY, “Avengers: Endgame” upped its global box office to US$1.915 billion, meaning the title is likely to cross US$2 billion in ticket sales with the Saturday box office.

With its Friday North American earnings of US$40.6 million, “Endgame” has crossed US$500 million in domestic ticket sales, making it the 9th Disney film to do so.

The opening weekend for the Kevin Feige production has already smashed records, with a stunning US$1.22 billion gross at the global box office that included a US$357.1 million North American debut. From Monday to Thursday of last week, “Endgame” has pulled in an astounding US$562 million at the global box office.

On Friday, Lionsgate rom-com “Long Shot” grossed US$3.63 million in North America. Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron star in the movie from director Jonathan Levine, which debuted at SXSW to positive reviews and opened wide on 3,230 screens in North America.

The weekend’s animation opener, “UglyDolls”, earned US$2.5 million in stateside ticket sales on Friday. Nick Jonas, Kelly Clarkson, Pitbull and other A-listers lent their voices to the CGI feature from STXfilms and Alibaba, which has a B+ CinemaScor­e.

The weekend’s third offering, Screen Gems’ “The Intruder” starring Michael Ealy, Meagan Good and Dennis Quaid, took in an impressive US$3.9 million on Friday from 2,222 locations. Directed by Deon Taylor, the movie centres on a couple who recently purchased their dream home, only to find that the strangely attached seller continues to infiltrate their lives.
