Resort supports Earth Hour
KOTA KINABALU: ShangriLa’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa joined millions of others around the globe in supporting the Earth Hour last night.
Led by General Manager, Fiona Hagan and Advisor of WWF Malaysia, Dr Glyn Davies at 8.30pm the resort turned off the lights for one hour.
Understanding the importance of global action Rasa Ria is committed to supporting this important initiative. At Rasa Ria, we value the environment and know that every positive contribution counts towards halting the negative impact of climate change.
Rasa Ria kicked off the day with beach plogging at 7am. This activity combines running with picking up litter.
“We were joined by guests and along with our staff came together for this great cause.”
The key event started at 8.30pm where guests were invited to light a candle during the lights off period made from upcycled materials around the resort.
Children were entertained with a fun and engaging storytelling under the stars that put sustainable action at the heart of these stories.
Guests were also invited to take a walk on the beach with our expert rangers to discover the endemic marine life of Sabah and the importance of preserving the natural environment.
The Earth Hour #connect 2 earth is in line with Shangri-La’s key strategy of achieving excellence through our commitment to our environment as a part of our corporate social responsibility.
As a part of this initiative, we relaunched our forest reserve with the key purpose of protecting the endemic flora and fauna of Borneo. The expert naturalists help promote this through guided tours. Over the next few months, Rasa Ria will explore and implement various other opportunities that are aimed at conservation, protection of the environment and help contribute to mitigating the negative effects of climate change.
The resort will continue to support this cause and educate the community, the guests and the staff on the indispensable value of protecting the environment.
