44-year-old woman finally gets her Malaysian IC

-

MIRI: Getting a passport is what 44-year-old Ting Fong Lee wants to do after successfully obtaining the Malaysian identification card (IC) earlier this month.

According to Ting, her late father had been trying to get her application approved numerous times and she herself had tried also but to no avail but now she is grateful to Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and his office in helping her get her Malaysian citizenship.

Born in Brunei to a Malaysian father and a Bruneian mother, the woman moved to Miri when she was more than a year old and though she had attended local schools in her younger days, she felt it is necessary for her to obtain the Malaysian citizenship.

She already felt like giving up but more than two years ago, her elder brother applied for citizenship through the assemblyman’s office and succeeded. Her brother then encouraged her to apply again through the same office.

The assemblyman said his office wrote a letter to the Home Ministry on June 25, 2018 to support her application dated April 15, 2015 and on August 14, 2018, Ting’s application was approved.

“The process surely took some time but I am thankful she got her citizenship and at least now she can travel like any other Malaysians,” the assemblyman said at his office here yesterday adding that there are about 100 applications for Malaysian citizenship that his office is currently handling.
