Police to question Perlis MP over molest report by girl

-

KANGAR: A member of Parliament from Perlis will be called to give his statement at Bukit Aman today over a molestation case.

Perlis police chief SAC Noor Mushar Mohamed said the suspect was now in Kuala Lumpur to attend to some political matters.

“As such we have requested the assistance of Bukit Aman to take his statement on the case.

“Apart from that, I have also appointed a special police officer to handle the case and it will be treated like a normal case,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

He said the statement of the MP would be managed by Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11).

Earlier, Noor Mushar denied police were attempting to cover up the sexual case which involved a Perlis MP but the investigation was kept confidential according to procedures as the victim in the case is a minor.

He said police did not take sides because the suspect is a VVIP and stressed that any individual involved in crimes would be brought to justice.

“Police are conducting the case under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and when we have completed our investigation we will hand it over to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” he added.

He was commenting on claims by Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (Mywatch) chairman Datuk R Sri Sanjeevan via his Twitter account which questioned why the MP involved was still not arrested when the victim had lodged a police report.

It was learnt a police report made recently alleged the victim, 15, was molested by the MP but the report was withdrawn by the victim’s family.

Noor Mushar said even though the victim’s family had withdrawn the report, investigation must go on and any understanding reached between the victim’s family and the suspect is not related to police.

In this regard, he reminded all parties not to interfere in police matters and warned them to let police investigate according to procedures.

“I want to give a warning especially to Sanjeevan, not to interfere in police investigations and not to accuse police of not doing their duty,” he said. Bernama
