Runaway RapidKL bus driver pleads guilty to self administration of drug

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The RapidKL bus driver whose bus weaved through traffic and crashed into seven vehicles in the Ampang area last Thursday was charged in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with self-administration of the drug Syabu.

Md Khairol Anuar Mohamad, 32, pleaded guilty soon after the charge was read out before Magistrate Noorasyikin Sahat.

However, the court did not hand down the sentence yet pending a pathology report.

Md Khairol Anuar was charged with committing the offence at the toilet of the Narcotic Criminal Investigation Division of the Dang Wangi district police at 7.40 pm last Aug 17.

The charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years on conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Amirul Asyraf Abdul Rasid, who prosecuted, proposed bail at RM7,000 with one surety.

However, Md Khairol Anuar’s wife, who is the bailor, requested for the amount to be reduced on grounds that they had a eightmonth-old child to support and she had low blood and heart problem.

The court then set bail at RM3,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 24 for mention.

A video clip of one minute 37 seconds duration on the bus weaving through traffic and crashing into vehicles went viral on social media.

In the incident at about 8.00pm, seven vehicles were severely damaged after the bus rammed into them. The bus was allegedly driven by a man suspected of trying to escape an accident in front of the Risda Building in Jalan Ampang here.
