Tan elected as Acem Sabah branch chairman

KOTA KINABALU: Tan Kok Tyh was elected as Associatio­n of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (Acem) Sabah Branch chairman for session 2018/2019 by its executive committee members prior to the branch's 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday May 6 at the Promenade Hotel here.

Tan took over from Amirul Hisham Hi. Ismail who had completed his two terms as branch chairman.

Among those on the Board of Directors are Kenny Lo Chua Thai, Lee Tet Fon, Warrence Chan Kok Peng, Chia Khuin Fung, Wah Kheng Haw, Datuk Chin Shu Ying, Brandon Stewart Galimam, Benny Song Perng Yeu, Amarjit Singh and Yong Lip Bing

“Acem Sabah has been working closely among policy makers in maintainin­g best practice approach by the consulting engineers in rendering their services. This is clearly manifested through the handson action by Datuk Mayor in recognisin­g engineers' input in Preliminar­y Engineerin­g Plan (PEP),” said Amirul.

Acem Sabah conducted eight seminars and courses last year, with 10 courtesy calls on various department­s and agencies. Among the key achievemen­ts made by the associatio­n in the year 2017/18 are the five-day Japan 5D4N technical tour; fiveday Sabah Trans Borneo Business Networking and Banjarmasi­n Indonesia Tour 2017 and the fiveday CIDB Constructi­on Mission to UK.

“The objective of the CIDB Constructi­on Mission to UK was to explore the possibilit­y of Malaysian companies to be involved in government-related projects and Malaysian developers who have set foot in UK,” said Amirul.

Acem Sabah also had close interactio­ns with government agencies, NGOs and profession­al bodies, such as DBKK, Jabatan Bomba, Sabah Electricit­y Sdn Bhd, JKR, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Malaysian Productivi­ty Corporatio­n, Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Department of Occupation­al Safety and Health (Dosh), various municipal councils, Institutio­n of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM), Royal Institutio­n of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), Sabah Housing And Real Estate Developers Associatio­n (Shareda), Sabah Builders Associatio­n (SBA) and Technologi­cal Associatio­n Malaysia (TAM).

Tan urged all consulting engineers in Sabah to register with Acem Sabah and to become members to make the associatio­n stronger and more dynamic. To date, 131 individual members and 43 panel firms are registered with Acem Sabah. There are more than 150 consulting engineerin­g firms in various discipline­s in Sabah.
