-

LAHAD DATU: Thirty illegal immigrants were detained during an integrated operation coordinated by Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) at a factory’s quarters at mile 4, Segama road, about six kilometers from town on Tuesday.

ESSCom commander, DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali, in a statement yesterday, said that the four-hours operation which began at 11.30 pm was participated by the police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Immigration Department and the local authority.

Hazani said those detained comprised 26 Filipinos and four Indonesians, aged between three and 52 years old, for not having valid identification documents or in possession of unverified documents.

“During the operation, 44 individuals were checked and 30 of them were detained for immigration offences. Those arrested will be investigated under Section 6 (1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/1961 and would be taken to the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre for further action before deportation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hazani assured that ESSCom will always take proactive measures including tightening security control of the country’s waters, especially that bordering the Philippines by launching special operations continuously to prevent the kidnapping for ransom (KFR) group from entering the state.

Hazani added that these were among the efforts undertaken by ESSCom to enhance security, especially in the Sabah East Coast, and build up the people’s level of confidence towards security here.
