167 set to tee off at Federal Territory Day Golf Tourney

-

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 167 golfers will be taking part in the Federal Territory Day Golf Tournament to be held at the Labuan International Golf Club (LIGC) tomorrow.

General manager of LIGC, Abd Razak Abd Samad, said the LIGC and Labuan Corporation will be jointly organising the ‘strokeplay’ format tournament.

“The response has been overwhelming and that is why we decided to have two sessions. The first will tee off at 7.15am and the second batch at 12.45pm.

“We (organisers) have closed the registration after getting the maximum quota of 120 golfers, but the growing number of golfers in the waiting list forced us to add the afternoon session and thus enable all those on the waiting list to take part,” he said.

Razak said they had come to the decision so as to not disappoint the participants and to accept their entries to join in the tournament while celebrating Federal Territory Day.

“On behalf of the organisers, we want to thank all the players for their support of the tournament. The golfers are from Brunei Darussalam, Tawau, Keningau, Kota Kinabalu as well as from Labuan,” he said.

There will be four categories to be contested, namely the Open, LIGC Closed for members, Ladies and Invitees.

“There will also be hole-in-one prizes including RM10,000 cash sponsored by CahayaPack at the par-three hole number five and seven.

“Apart from that, an Iron set courtesy of Transview will also be put up at all the par three holes waiting for lucky golfers to hit the ace shot,” he added.
