Dr M for PM not wise choice – PPBM Youth chief

-

KUANTAN: The opposition pact nominating Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be interim prime minister and PKR president Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to be his deputy should it win the 14th General Election has not gone down well with Pahang PPMB's Youth chief Raja Mohd Azlan Raja Omar.

Raja Mohd Azlan said this was because the move was seen as the pact not having candidates of calibre to hold the two important posts.

“We admit Tun M has been a great leader. Nevertheless now is not a suitable time for him to be prime minister again, we need younger people and consistency in the (new) administration.

“If we keep changing (prime ministers), when is the country going to progress. I agree with the opinion of Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (another young leader in PPBM) that 30 percent of the top posts should be reserved for young leaders,” he told reporters here yesterday.

He added that he was voicing his personal opinion on the matter in view of talk that the post he was holding now has been replaced by someone else following his questioning of several party policies.

Meanwhile, he did not deny there was infighting in Pahang PPBM Youth saying that only eight divisions remained active.

Temerloh PPBM Youth acting chief, Sharipul Fairuz Mohd Sharip concurred with him saying the combination would be problematic, claiming that it was the former prime minister (Dr Mahathir) who was responsible for ousting Anwar as deputy prime minister (when Anwar was Dr Mahathir's deputy) and jailing him on corruption charges.

Under the plan by the opposition (that is if they can win GE14) , Anwar, who is serving a fiveyear sentence for sodomy and is scheduled for early release from prison on June 8, will replace Dr Mahathir as prime minister.
