KUALA LUMPUR: M.A. Intelligent Parking (M) Sdn Bhd (MAIP) aims to build 20 automated Mechanical Parking System (MAPS) in the country next year, at an investment of RM1.8 billion.

Group chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Isa Kasim said the modernised premier parking system, which uses Japanese technology, would be the first of its kind in the country to help to address the issue of limited parking spaces, especially in major cities and towns.

“We have two on-going projects currently at the Kuala Kedah Jetty and Dataran Medan Tuanku, Alor Setar in Kedah, at an investment of RM84 million, and which would completed in two years.

“We have also signed some agreements and engaging with various parties, including Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, the KL Sentral management, hospitals and shopping malls around the country to build the parking system,” he told reporters after the launch of Malaysia’s first MAPS parking system yesterday. The launch was officiated by the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

He said MAPS was the result of a collaboration with Nissei Build Kogyo Co Ltd, the biggest suppliers of pre-fabricated building and multi-level mechanical and conventional car parking in Japan.

Muhammad Isa said that MAIP, a 100-per cent Bumiputera-owned company and the sole agent for the system in East Asia and the Middle East, was also looking to venture into Indonesia, Cambodia and several Middle Eastern countries via government-to-government approach.

It also planned to manufacture about 90 per cent of the components locally.

“We already have a plant in Ijok and will soon have another one in Pulau Indah, Selangor in an effort to reduce our cost,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nissei Build Kogyo’s Global Business and Technology Development Director Nobu Tanida said its parking technology system, now in its eighth generation, was safe, fully secured and efficient compared to the conventional car parking system. — Bernama
