Labuan karate-do exponents bag bronze
Labuan’s Nur Aneesa Aira Mohamad Affendi, Mohd Norfarhan Nordin and Zacchaeus Dunang Jerangku won three bronzes in the 19th Universal Shotokan Karate Union Interna onal Karate Championship 2017 in Japan.
LABUAN: Labuan’s Nur Aneesa Aira Mohamad Affendi, Mohd Norfarhan Nordin and Zacchaeus Dunang Jerangku made Malaysia proud ater winning three bronzes in the 19th Universal Shotokan Karate Union (USKU)) International Karate Championship 2017 in Japan last weekend.
Nur Aneesa Aira, who has been in the karate arena since she was five years old and now attending primary three at SK Pekan 2, bagged two bronzes in the Girls’ 9- yearold Kata Individual and Girls’ Kumite Individual categories, while SUKMA athlete, Mohd Norfarhan earned the third bronze through the Men’s Open Kata Individual.
Another athlete, Zacchaeus Dunang, a primary six student of SJKC Chi Wen, narrowly lost in the 3rd round of the 12-yearold Kumite category.
The international event was held on October 13-15 in Takanabe, Miyazaki in Japan.
“The Labuan duo had shown tremendous performance and made it through to a podium finish,” said Labuan Karate Association chief coach Aswadee Taba.
“As Japan is the powerhouse of karate, this tournament provides good exposure to our athletes and their achievement in this tournament is a good start for Labuan karate,” he said.
Aswadee said consistent training should be made regularly and more more exposure to other tournaments required to prepare athletes for the coming SUKMA 2018.
