Tour operators urged to look into tourism potential in Beluran

-

BELURAN: Tour operators are encouraged to look into the tourism potential here which could assist in the district’s economic growth.

Beluran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said the district has interesting tourism products such as islands and beaches, wildlife forests with Proboscis monkeys and a variety of plants.

The diversity of the native and unique cultures of the various tribes living in the district could be a possible tourist attraction.

“Taking all of these into consideration, chalet and homestay tourism operators need to help develop Beluran through tourism.

“Tourism is capable of contributing to the economic growth of Beluran and has proven to be one of the prominent economic contributors to Sabah,” he said when opening the Pesta Tamu Permai at Kampung Bayu Permai here on Saturday.

Also present were Beluran Umno Youth chief Samad Jambri and Beluran residents as well as visitors from out of town.

The event which was organised for the third round was enlivened by a Unity Run, Cycling, 4x4 Off Road Vehicle, Tamu market, Folk Games, Serama and Mural Contest.

Ronald said the government had provided funding or partnership between the government and the private sector for tourism development.

He said this included a tourism special fund and tourism infrastructure fund to assist the industry.

Meanwhile, commenting on the Pesta Tamu Permai, he said the event’s activities not only helped to foster unity among the people, but also highlighted Beluran as a destination for running, cycling and challenging 4x4 Off Road vehicle competition.

Pesta Tamu Permai is one of the events held annually in Beluran apart from Pesta Tagunggu, Ampalud De Padau, Pesta Jagung, Pesta Rambutan and so forth.

Ronald said he is always open to support all these events because Beluran needs such activities to highlight the area as a tourist destination and to encourage participation from outsiders.
