Man put behind bars for causing hurt
KOTA KINABALU: A 24-yearold man was jailed for 12 months by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for causing hurt.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie imposed the sentence on Alih Ismail after he admitted to committing the offence at a bus station in Towering town, Penampang at 1am on February 16.
He had voluntarily hurt Chong Vui Cheng, 35.
The indictment provides for a jail term of up to a year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both under Section 323 of the Penal Code, upon conviction.
In pleading for a lenient sentence, the unrepresented Alih told the court that he had a child and a wife, who is pregnant, to support.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit told the court that a complainant lodged a police report that he and his friend, namely, Alen Pang, were beaten by some unknown men.
The complainant had contacted a man and wanted to meet him at the bus stop in Towering town, Penampang, as the complainant suspected that the man had an affair with his wife.
Therefore, the complainant waited at the bus top together with his friend, Alen.
After that, six persons in three motorcycles showed up in front of the complainant and Alen.
Then, two of the men beat the complainant while another man beat Alen.
The complainant suffered a swollen head and right ear as he was beaten using a metal chain while Alen had received a total 12 stitches on three different parts of his head.
