Rhinos continue winning streak

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah beat Armed Forces 2-0 in their Premier League match at the Proton Stadium in Tanjung Malim, Perak, yesterday.

The win helped to stretch the Rhinos unbeaten run to four games (three wins and one draw) and at the same time secure the team's safety from relegation.

Sabah led 1-0 in the first half thanks to sole striker Rodoljub Paunovic's goal just seconds before the break.

Later Heo Jaenyeong made his presence felt after injury put him out for three matches before this. The defensive midfielder from South Korea struck late in the match to seal the victory for Sabah in the 82nd minute.

Sabah team manager Datuk Juil Nuatim said he was happy with the win and that the team did a great job of achieving their target.

“Happy with the win. We achieved our target so congratulations to everyone on the team especially the players. Based on our performance, we truly deserve this victory,” he said when contacted after the match.

“We achieved our target of winning the points, extending our unbeaten run and most importantly securing safety from relegation. We also made amends for the 5-2 defeat to the same opponent in the first round. I hope we can keep this up and continue winning,” Juil added.

The win gave the Rhinos its 24th point and they are now one spot higher in the 12-team standings and will remain in seventh place for at least a few hours.

Only Police can bump Sabah back to eighth spot. They met with Negeri Sembilan last night and victory would see them go to seventh spot also on 24 points but with a better goal difference than Juil's boys.

However, results were not available at press time.

Another match yesterday saw Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) beat Perlis 3-1.
