- By Christy Chok

TAWAU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi approved RM2 million Federal Government allocation to rebuild 77 stalls at Pasar Gantung here that were razed by fire on July 14.

Zahid said the Federal Government and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman were deeply concerned about this unfortunate incident and hoped the allocation could assist the fire victims who are mostly traders.

He was speaking during a Hari Raya open house of Rastamas Cold Storage Sdn Bhd, Jalan Apas here yesterday afternoon. Musa was also in attendance. Zahid also priased Rastamas for carrying out its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by sharing 2.5 per cent of its net income to be donated to the unfortunate group.

At the ceremony, Rastamas handed “green packets” to 21 orphans from Al-Raudhoh orphanage home, Batu 4, Jalan Apas here.

Meanwhile, the National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun Nasional) also allocated RM279,000 loans to 77 entrepreneurs whose stalls at Pasar Gantung were razed by fire recently.

On the other hand, the Economic Bureau and Entrepreneurship of Umno Tawau together with Tawau Bumiputra Chamber of Commerce also contributed some funds to 57 fabric stalls, 18 handicraft stalls and six booths on the sidewalk at Pasar Gantung.
