Trio fined for drink driving

KOTA KINABALU: Three men were yesterday fined between RM2,000 and RM2,500, in default, two weeks’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Kuan Choon Foo, Mohd Nazlie Sambas, 28, and Scelisanto Stebul, 26, who appeared before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, pleaded guilty to their charges under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM6,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months upon conviction.

Kuan was fined RM2,000, in default, two weeks’ jail for committing the offence at Jalan Bundusan in Penampang on January 8.

Mohd Nazlie and Scelisanto were fined RM2,000 and RM2,500 respective­ly, in default, two weeks’ jail for committing a similar offence at Jalan Coastal here on January 1.

Meanwhile, the Sessions Court maintained the May 8-9 and 1517 trial dates for a man who was charged with raping a mentally disabled woman.

Juhinol Limbuis, 36, who was brought before judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, was charged under Section 376 (2)(k) of the Penal Code.

The indictment provides for a jail term of up to 30 years and also liable to whipping, upon conviction.

Juhinol was accused of raping the 23-year-old woman at a house in a village, Penampang about 3pm on July 2015.

The court advised the accused to find a counsel.
