China Consulate-General leading example for women
KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association (USCCA) Kota Kinabalu branch feted its women members to a dinner on Wednesday to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The dinner was also in appreciation to all the Chinese communities and associations who have played a role and supported the 2017 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion dance festival as well cultural village exhibition.
USCCA Kota Kinabalu president Datuk Susan Wong in her welcoming address at the dinner paid tribute to the guest of honour, Chen Peijie who is the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu.
“The Consulate-General Chen Peijie is truly an Iron Lady. It is rare to see a woman represents China and to be designated in Sabah by holding the Consulate-General post. She is an outstanding example for women.
“We are proud of ConsulateGeneral Chen Peijie and she is the leading example for women,” she said.
Wong also recorded USCCA’s appreciation and gratitude to Chen for her full support to the 2017 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion dance festival and the cultural village exhibition.
Chen was the grand judge for the cultural exhibition of pastries and teas by the Chinese communities and associations under USCCA. She also allocated RM30,000 to USCCAKK to fund the relevant activities for the cultural event.
“Her generosity has helped us a lot and it is also a strong encouragement for us to continue on organising more activities to promote the inheritance of Chinese culture. This gesture of kindness also symbolises China and Malaysia working hand in hand promoting Chinese culture as we share the same mission,” Wong said.
She also expressed her gratitude to all the sponsors of the event as well as the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman, for providing the organizing committee and USCCA strong support as well as allocation to the 2017 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion dance festival, making it a successful event.
On the celebration of women worldwide, Wong said the International Women’s Day was a special day and was a day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women globally.
“The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. As March 8 is our ladies celebration, therefore the women bureaus from the 15 Chinese communities will present exciting singing and dancing performances to showcase our talents.
“International Women’s Day celebration has become an USCCAKK annual event. The theme for this year is ‘Enchantment of Feminine, Women of Happiness’, with the aim to raise awareness of the public in parity of gender. We are looking forward to see more and more outstanding women in business, politics and nongovernmental organisations,” she said.
