-

PENAMPANG : INDEP Education Foundation (IEF) together with Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF), Pusat Cemerlang Penampang, Penampang Village Homestay and JKKKs from Zon Kolopis, Kg. Babagon, Kg.Sugud and Kg.Putaton will be organising the Penampang Traditional Food and Crafts Bazaar at KDCA Hall, Penampang here on Sunday, April 17.

This bazaar is held to raise funds for the various programs undertaken by the NGO bodies and the JKKKs, one of them being the free English tuition to primary school students in four centres in Penampang.

The English tuition is provided free to the rural children as part of the IEF and JKKKs’ efforts to help rural children master the English language and excel in their future studies. Apart from the English program, IEF is also working with KLF to promote and enrich the Kadazandusun language.

The two organisations have already organised two Kadazandusun novel writing competitions, the first being in 2013 and the second in 2015. The third competition is on-going.

The winning novels have been published and are now being used as reference materials by various institutions of higher learning in Sabah.

Among the other highlights of the bazaar is the prize presentation of the Tan Sri Bernard Dompok Siling Making Competition, the third such competition being carried out by Pusat Cemerlang Penampang.

The art of making ‘siling Penampang’ has gained recognition among purveyors of Kadazandusun traditional costumes.

It was first held in 2011 and proved to be a popular competition. The current competition was recently launched by Your Excellency Tan Sri Bernard Dompok on February 6 and ended on April 13.

Ten winners will receive prizes at the bazaar. Other exciting activities lined up for the bazaar include lucky draws, children presentations and songs for charity. A wide range of traditional and local food will be sold during the event.

The bazaar will be officially launched by Yang Berbahagia Datuk Donald Mojuntin as the representative of Your Excellency Tan Sri Bernard Dompok who is the patron of INDEP Education Foundation.
