BN to win back at least 3 Chinese seats

-

KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi believes that Barisan Nasional can wrest at least three Chinese majority seats from the opposition and reduce the seats held by the opposition from 13 (in the last state polls in 2011) to 10 in the coming state election.

However, he stressed that this would only come about if BN work hard and smart.

“Reports are reports but as a practical politician, I think we need not only to work hard but we need to work smart in order to get the support of all communities.

“The situation is changing… probably from minus 13 to minus 10 depending on how smart BN machinery is working towards achieving the victory in this coming state election,” Zahid who is also Home Affairs Minister told The Borneo Post reporters during his Chinese New Year visit to KTS Group Managing Director Dato Henry Lau’s residence at Parkview yesterday.

He was responding to the question of the intelligence gathered by Home Affairs Ministry on the coming state election. KUCHING: Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming should take responsibility over the recent posting on his alleged Facebook account, which had altered caption of a photo depicting Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also PBB supreme council member, urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the matter.

He believed that MCMC and other relevant authorities should take action against such act carried out by what he deemed as ‘a despicable individual out to create ill feeling and anger among the multi-ethnic races in this country’.

“Nga should be responsible for his posting and the anxieties that it created, especially to Sarawakians. Even though the posting has been removed, the damage has been done. DAP and Nga must apologise to Chief Minister Adenan for what they

In the last state election, state BN lost 13 out of 15 Chinese majority seats managing to retain only Bawang Assan and Senadin.

“The target (of BN) depends on the (BN election) machinery. If they work hard, probably they will achieve more,” said Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister.

He said the ruling coalition had been trying its level best to win back the Chinese-majority seats.

The biggest challenge to be faced in the coming state election, according to Zahid, was still issues brought up by the opposition parties originating from discontent not from the people but rather the opposition parties themselves.

Hefurtherpointedoutthatanother challenge was the slanderous issue did.

“The caption of the photo on the Taiping MP’s Facebook account originally stated: ‘Adenan: Our Government will always treat the Chinese well’, but this was altered to ‘Balik Tongsan, Cina Babi’ and ‘Apa Lagi Cina Mau’. Such act is despicable, malicious, provocative and forthright idiotic — even more so that it was coming from a supposedly honourable MP,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, was referring to a Facebook page bearing Nga’s name that carried the ‘Balik Tongsan, Cina Babi’ (Go back to China, Chinese pigs) caption sloppily placed above Adenan’s picture.

Moreover a post pinned on the top of the said Facebook page, Nga allegedly said: “Before election sweet, after the election: Apa Lagi Cina Mau (What else do the Chinese want).

Nga was alleged to have shared the posting on Wednesday. However, it has been removed.

The Perak DAP chief is no stranger to controversy when it stirred up by the opposition which he refused to identify as he believed that the people knew and he preferred the people to make their own decision.

“ButtheroleoftheBNgovernment is to explain to the people and I think they have to make comparison whether the opposition is telling the truth or the government is putting the effort to realise what we have promised to the rakyat as a whole,” said Zahid.

He agreed that the upcoming state election would be an indicator to the 2018 General Election as it might reflect the trend at the national level.

“But I think we have to work doubly smart now for this election and the General Election later on.”

Meanwhile, DPM said he was grateful to the CM for being asked to strength the departments and agencies under his ministries to assist the state not just during the state election but to serve the people better.

“We have to work together, state and federal, not just for election, but to provide service to the rakyat,” said Zahid.

‘Perak DAP should be responsible for offensive Facebook posting’

comes to unsavoury Facebook postings. Last year, it was reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor filed a lawsuit against Nga for an alleged defamatory posting against the two on a Facebook bearing his (Nga’s) name.

The March 29 post was entitled ‘Nga Kor Ming: Siapa PM Malaysia Yang Sebenar? Jawab!’ (Nga Kor Ming: Who is the Real Prime Minister of Malaysia? Answer!) — insinuating that it was Rosmah calling all the shots, instead of Najib, in terms of national matters.

The post was uploaded together with a photo of Najib and Rosmah with several ministers during a federal cabinet meeting — although it was revealed later that the photo was actually taken during the couple’s official overseas visit.

Initially, Najib and Rosmah had demanded that the offending Facebook post be removed and a public apology issued but as both were not forthcoming, the couple went ahead with the lawsuit.

Federal govt willing to review policies affecting Chinese community — DPM

KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the federal government is open to changing its policy to bring back the support of the Chinese communityinSarawakespecially in view of the coming state election.

He said there were rooms for discussion, including the recognition of Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

“That can be discussed. For matters involving policies, PM (Prime Minister) will discuss with ministry concerned and their decision will be brought to the cabinet.

“And definitely before any decision is made, the cabinet members will discuss the issue in details, based on the reports given to the cabinet members,” Zahid told The Borneo Post reporters during his Chinese New Year visit to KTS Group Managing Director Dato Henry Lau’s residence at Parkview yesterday.

He said, the UEC issue has been raised in the cabinet by the Education Minister but no decision had been made yet.

“So far, there is matter arising, brought up by the Education Minister but we haven’t finalised it yet. We will discuss in details,” said Zahid.
