Incentives for Terengganu athletes who excelled at SEA Games

KUALA NERUS (Terengganu): Terengganu athletes who won medals at the recent SEA Games in Singapore received incentives from the state government.

State Sports Council director Ab Rashid Jusoh said athletes from the state had won eight gold medals, four silver medals and 11 bronze medals at the games.

An athlete who won an individual gold medal received RM4,000 and a team gold medal, RM2,500; a silver medal (RM3,000/RM2,000) and a bronze medal (RM2,000/ RM1,500) under the incentive award scheme.

"Our athletes have won important gold medals such as in the cycling event via Mohd Harrif Saleh, archery (Khairul Anwar Mohamad) and shooting (Alia Sazana Azhari)," he said at a ceremony to hand over incentives to the athletes and a breaking-of-fast which was officiated at by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman here Thursday.

Also present was State Youth, Sports and Human Resources Committee chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat.

Ab Rashid said other athletes who had contribute­d medals at the Games were Nik Muhammad Aiman Nik Rozemi, Muhammad Sufi Ismat Mr Rohulamin and Rabiatul Adawiyah Mohamed (via hockey), Siti Rahmah Mohamed Nasir (pencak silat) and Abdul Latif Mansor (sailing).

He said a RM1,000 incentive was also given to each athlete who represente­d the nation.

He said Terengganu sent 73 athletes, two officials and six coaches to the biennial Games.

Ab Rashid also received a contributi­on of RM132,500 from the state government, which was handed over by Ahmad Razif, to cover the cost of taking the Terengganu athletes to the Games. - Bernama
