‘PR1MA report to be presented to cabinet soon’

-

PUTRAJAYA: The due diligence report for the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA) will be presented to the cabinet soon, says Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamarudin.

She said the due diligence report was divided into two parts, management and financial.

“I will present the management or organisational report, which is in line with what we are doing.

“I have yet to receive the financial report, which will be ready soon. Once I receive it, I will present it to the cabinet before the details are made public.

“As of now, there are no new housing projects under PR1MA. All (existing housing schemes under

PR1MA) are being streamlined to be in line with the affordable housing policy,” she said after attending the ministry’s Innovation Day here yesterday.

She, however, declined to divulge more details.

During the event, Zuraida launched the MyWC (My Water Closet) app that assists people in locating the nearest public toilet.

PR1MA, in a statement, said there were approximately 94,000 units of its homes being built in various stages nationwide.

“Of the total, 12,999 units have been completed. PR1MA’s participation in the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC), which runs until the end of the year, has garnered an overwhelming response from housebuyers with sales bookings of 14,075 homes up to June,” read the statement.

“The purpose of HOC 2019 was to stimulate the market, increase home ownership and address the current property overhang.

“The limited special offers not only benefit aspiring housebuyers, but also safeguard the community, ensuring that vacant units are taken up and boosting occupancy, which increases the value of long-term development.

“We hope the previous housebuyers will understand and remain supportive of our efforts to ensure shared prosperity and sustainable development of the nation,” it said regarding comments by housebuyers who had bought their units before the HOC campaign, which offered a 30 per cent discount.

It said PR1MA’s mandate to provide quality affordable homes, with a focus on holistic development, among others, had maintained the status quo.

It said there were initiatives to deliver on the national housing agenda, in line with the government’s aspirations to uplift the people’s quality of life.

The government had announced its commitment to provide one million affordable homes within 10 years, as stipulated under the National Housing Policy 2018–2025.

Launched earlier this year, the policy capped the price of affordable housing at RM300,000.

It was reported that the government had given PR1MA two years to settle its issues, including a liability of RM23 billion. PR1MA had since managed to reduce its debt to RM12 billion.

Zuraida had given her assurance that PR1MA would not be dissolved and would ensure that all its projects were completed and sold to eligible buyers.
