Head coach calls it quits

-

Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) have disclosed that Peter Genever has tendered his resignation as the national coach.

SRAM director of coaching Major (Rtd) S. Maniam said Genever’s last day will be on Feb 28.

The Englishman has been coaching the national elite squad for the last seven years.

Genever cited personal reasons, including a desire to return to England, as the main factors behind his decision.

Maniam paid homage to the highly respected coach.

“Genever has been thoroughly professional in his job. He has a special rapport with the senior players whom he works closely with and has earned the respect of others in the squad,” said Maniam.

“His fellow coaches speak highly of him and he is always there to lend a helping hand. I found Genever to be meticulous when conveying his instructions at all training sessions.

“SRAM and in particular the coaching wing will sorely miss him.

“He expressed his gratitude to SRAM and the other concerned parties for their support and opportunities provided to him over the last seven years.”

Maniam disclosed that the National Sports Council (NSC) have already given SRAM the green light to hire a new head coach and will be advertising the position soon.

Genever ’s assistant Ajaz Azmat will takeover as caretaker until a replacement is found.

Genever, who groomed Ng Eain Yow, Mohd Syafiq Kamal, Rachel Arnold, Ooi Kah Yan and Siow Yee Xian among others, has offered to train a replacement for his position in the coming months as well as look after Malaysian players who are either training or competing in England in the future.
