5 REMANDED OVER MAN’S MURDER
Entertainment outlet manager was hacked to death in early morning brawl outside PJ pub
ACOUPLE and three bouncers have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into the case of an entertainment outlet manager who was hacked to death in Section 8 here on Sunday.
The remand order against the four men and a woman, aged between 20 and 30, was handed down by assistant registrar Hairol Azhar Mohd Ishak at the magistrate’s court here.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said all suspects would be remanded until Sunday.
The five are being investigated for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
It was reported that the victim, Edward Rishal S. Reggie, 28, was attacked by a group of men armed with parang outside a pub in 8 Avenue here.
Closed-circuit television camera footage showed that the victim and the group had an argument at 5.30am. An hour later, four vehicles — a Perodua MyVi, a Honda HRV, a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Camry — pulled up at the scene.
Several men alighted from the vehicles, all armed with parang.
They then attacked the victim. The victim reportedly ran back into the pub.
The victim, who managed an entertainment outlet in Bangsar, was pronounced dead by a medical team at 7.40am.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said the suspects were arrested outside of Petaling Jaya.
He said the arrests brought the number of people detained in the case to eight.
