All in the bag

Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan finds a going-outwith-baby staple in the form of a bag organiser

- Slizta@mediaprima.com.my

MY best friend carries her black, well-worn bag organiser everywhere and in it — I believe it’s a Muji — are her make-up essentials, namely, powder foundation for touch-up, lipstick, lip gloss, sunblock, perfume vials, tissue, mint and others that she needs while on-the-go.

So when I saw that The dUCk Group wanted to launch its version of bag organiser a few months ago, it reminded me of my best friend’s bag.

I had always thought that she is singular in wanting to organise everything. Turns out, there’s a market for a bag-ina-bag.

My daily bag is a Louis Vuitton Speedy in which goes everything from my dUCk notebook and ball pen to lipstick and umbrella.

There is no organisation beyond the zipper and I can tolerate the anarchy although I admit looking for small things tends to be hard, since the lining is dark.

PRACTICAL PURPOSE

But when you are a mum, there are so many things that you need to lug around. If you do so without any organisation, then your baby may need to wait for a good five minutes before you find the wet wipes or pacifier deep inside your tote.

That’s why I tried the dUCk organiser in Champagne and for the past few months, it has served me well and I don’t go out with my son without it.

It is my son’s bag for bringing along meals and it has made my life easier, especially if it’s just the two of us out in a restaurant.

Murshid likes to eat a variety of things. He subsists on chicken and vegetable porridge, and in between, he like puree and corn snacks. So going out with him means taking more than just one food container, which explains why a food bag is necessary.

The dUCk bag organiser has a wide enough base for my Hegen bottle porridge container and puree bottles with side pockets for many other things — baby cutlery, wet wipes and a small face towel.

It’s even big enough to store his Avent dinosaur straw cup (the only leak-proof straw cup I know) so everything Murshid needs for a meal out of home is there. There are nine pockets altogether and that’s very generous. Sometimes I put in a whole banana or the links that he plays with in there too. The smaller pockets can fit the standard 5oz feeding bottle, making it snug so contents won’t spill.

So yes, I’m a convert now and I fully understand how a bag organiser helps streamline a woman’s already full life. It helps to have your necessities all stored together in one place — be it make-up, daily essentials or your baby’s items — and fishing for an item will be breeze.

The poly synthetic (PU) leather material and lining dry fast so don’t worry if accidents happen. Just wash the stain and hang the organiser to dry under shade, but with enough ventilation.

I like to keep mine washed and clean, so it’s always ready the next time I’m packing for our meals outside the house.
