SOME 250 teachers from 160 primary and secondary schools from Melaka and Negri Sembilan were feted at the “Sepetang Bersama BH” event at Hotel Bayview, Bandar Hilir, here yesterday.

The event was held to thank educators and schools for subscribing to Berita Harian’s education pullouts — Didik, Minda and Skor.

State Education Department human development sector head Jasmi Abu Samah said the pullouts worked as teaching aids in the classroom.

“The use of newspapers, whether in print or digital formats, can inculcate good reading habit in students.

“It can expand the students’ minds, making better informed about current issues.”

Present were BH executive editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, New Straits Times Press Education Vertical general manager Farah Ezrin Mohd Rashidi, Newspaper Sales and Distribution general manager Alfian Alias, Melaka NSTP bureau head Badrul Hizar Ab Jabar and BH Education Unit editor Fadzlena Jaafar.

Singer Tajul Ariff performed at the event.

There were also sales and promotions of BH products, books, as well as NSTP’s education portal FullAMark.

Melaka is the second stop of the Sepetang Bersama BH programme after kicking off in Johor Baru.

It will go to Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor and the Federal Territory.

Zaini said the effectiveness of BH’s pullouts was proven when most of the 10 best schools for Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah, Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia in 2015 were BH subscribers.

He said NSTP acknowledged the importance of English proficiency among the younger generation and had launched education pullouts, such as Niexter and School Times.
