Gobind: Speed up probe into Finas’ RM25m funding

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to speed up its probe into the National Film Development Board (Finas).

Gobind said, in a letter dated Sept 12, MACC had replied that the investigation on Finas was ongoing.

“The reply came after a letter sent to them (on Aug 25), asking for an update of their investigations into the RM25 million of (Finas) funding.

“I hope MACC would speed up its probe into Finas as it involves a huge amount and I am in the midst of restructuring the body.

“I understand that the investigation is going to be detailed, but I ask MACC to hurry up on this investigation,” he said after the ‘Malaysia: A New Dawn 2018’ investors conference here yesterday.

On June 7, MACC raided Finas’ headquarters.

Gobind said this was in connection with several allocations Finas had received.

Yesterday, Gobind in a statement announced the appointment of the ministry’s deputy secretary-general, Shakib Ahmad Shakir, as acting directorgeneral of Finas, replacing Datuk Fauzi Ayob.

The ministry’s finance division deputy secretary Fairul Azida Shahabudin, was appointed as acting deputy director-general of Finas, replacing Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib.
