CITY PLOT MBAPPE MOVE

Manchester club eye record January move for PSG star striker

- Mail Daily

MANCHESTER City are targeting an audacious January move for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe. Pep Guardiola believes the French teenager could take the club to Champions League glory and wants to make a world record £200 million (RM1.1 billion) bid.

That would beat the £198 million that the French giants paid Barcelona for Neymar last year, and would cost them £20 million per year in wages.

Guardiola has been keen on the young striker since his Monaco days, when he burst onto the scene by knocking City of the Champions League in 2017.

New UEFA rules mean he would not be cup-tied for the knockout stages of this year's competition, having already featured for PSG at Liverpool this month.

City's move comes amid more probing of PSG's finances as part of a Financial Fair Play investigation.

UEFA cleared PSG of breaking rules in June but decided to review that a month later.

The case has been handed back to the Club Financial Control Body for further investigation.

Raheem Sterling could be sacrificed to help City fund a move for Mbappe, with his contract up next year and no agreement yet reached on a new deal.

Mbappe initially joined PSG on a season-long loan deal from Monaco last year before making the move permanent to the tune of £165 million.

The 19-year-old won the Best Young Player at the World Cup and scored in the final as France beat Croatia to lift the trophy for a second time.
