BlooM (alBuM)

- Troye Sivan 5/5

TROYE Sivan’s highly anticipated Bloom has arrived. He has come a long way since his

Blue Neighborhood days. There have been so much great reviews about this record that I’m hoping I won’t be biased from all the good stuff being said already.

In his latest interview with FlyFM’s Ili, he explained the process of how Bloom came about. “I started off with a playlist of artistes and songs that inspired me. And it was about finding my identity within that”.

On the opening track Seventeen, Sivan sings about searching for love before even getting into adulthood. It’s a rather laid back, trippy track with soft background music, which was a good start to Bloom.

He allowed himself to be vulnerable yet still very much relatable which makes it very nice. The transition from one melody to another is seamless. The two tracks that have been dominating the Malaysian airwaves are Dance To This, featuring Arianna Grande, and My My My, both of which also happen to be my personal favourites. For

MyMyMy, where do I begin! This lead single and second track off the album is powered by infectious drum beats that will instincdancing tively get you along to it.

To This couldn’t have been more perfect. Arianna’s powerhouse vocals compleoh ments Sivan’s so beautifully. The beats, the rhythm, everything just blended so well.

He really outdid himself this time round. And given his ever-rising star power, he still remains as humble as ever. This is as real as it gets. Bloom is probably best described in two words — “growth” because he is evidently growing and maturing in every way possible and “transparency” because he gets real about everything through his songs.

I dare say there is no bad song among the 10 tracks on tap. His songwriting abilities really shone through in the tracks and like some of the starling reviews written about this, I quote: “Bloom is everything pop music should be”. Couldn’t have said it any better.
