CROSSED THE LINE’

of the party.

“Speaking about Mahathir, it was also on this stage that he reminded us that Malays easily forget.

“But, to us, this man has crossed the line by joining forces with his political enemies just to fulfil a personal and family agenda.

“Evidently, the preaching that Malays easily forget is a perfect fit of himself.”

Najib hit out at Dr Mahathir’s party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), for not having a clear direction and fundamental struggles.

“When it comes to the ‘Parti Bunga Raya’ (an indirect reference to PPBM), sorry to say, I do not see what values they want to bring forth.

“They say they want to fight for Malays and Islam, but they are in a pact and being made a tool by DAP, which is anti-Malay and Islam.

“This can be seen in DAP’s constitution, which does not mention Islam as the religion of the federation, as it wants to turn Malaysia into a secular nation.”

Najib questioned PPBM leadership’s inability to manage the party’s first annual general meeting.

“As the youngsters say, if you cannot manage your (own annual general) meeting, how can you manage the country?”

Najib reminded the PPBM leadership not to point fingers at others, including the government, if it was unable to resolve internal problems before the 14th General Election.

Najib questioned Pakatan Harapan’s credentials to take over Putrajaya as the pact was struggling to resolve its leadership issue.

“There is no other (political) party like Pakatan Harapan, where four captains are navigating the ship.

“They have a de facto leader, a chairman, a president and now, an adviser.

“If they cannot even resolve internal party matters, how on earth are they going to take over the country’s leadership?” Najib said in his policy address at the Umno general assembly here yesterday.

He said this was why Pas once described that there were penyangak (thugs) in the pact, which the party had since abandoned.

As a former ally in the nowdefunct Pakatan Rakyat, Najib said, Pas realised the matter when it decided to walk out of the pact.

“Even Pas president (Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang) once said there were leaders who behaved like thugs in Pakatan Rakyat. It was not us who said this. Pas should know better, who are thugs and who are genuine leaders.”

Pakatan Rakyat, comprising Pas, DAP and PKR, collapsed two years ago after the Islamic party decided to leave the pact following a series of fallouts with DAP.

In his speech, Najib clarified that Umno’s relationship with Pas was in the interest of Muslims and not to the extent of forming an electoral pact.

He said Umno had no problems working with Pas on matters concerning the Muslim community, despite the two biggest Malay political parties having different political stances.

“Our stance is clear... our cooperation with them is in the interest of the Muslims, despite our differing political views.”
