Bront wants to gain 15kg for crime film

- By Aref Omar

THE man, known as Bront Palarae, is one handsome hunk with huge screen presence. But for his latest role though, he is going to go big, literally, and all in the wrong places.

“I’m putting on weight for my new role,” said the lanky sixfooter, who is of Malay, PunjabiPakistani and Thai descent.

The actor said his goal was to bring his weight up from 70kg to 85kg.

When met on Monday for the launch of Dewan Perniagaan Artis Dan Selebriti Malaysia (DPA) in Petaling Jaya, Bront said: “I’ll be playing a pudgy corrupt cop in an edgy underground triad crime drama film.”

A co-production between Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan, the film will be directed by Abdullah Zahir Omar, who won the first-ever BMW Shorties in 2007.

Bront said the plot would revolve around four friends trying to pull off a casino heist.

The 39-year-old, whose real name is Nasrul Suhaimin Saifuddin, said rehearsals would start in three weeks. “We will start shooting on Jan 8 and I will also be speaking in Mandarin for this. For me, it’s all about getting out of my comfort zone,” said Bront of the film, What Comes Around.

Bront, who has acted in movies like Bunohan, Ombak Rindu, Ola

Bola, Hanyut and the currently-screening Pengabdi Setan, said that his upcoming role had its setbacks.

“It’s bad to look flabby in the near future since I have to promote Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2. So, doing appearances, press interviews and photo shoots are going to be tricky,” he said.

Directed by Guntur Soehardjanto, Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2, which also stars newly-married Nur

Fazura Sharifuddin, is expected to premiere here next month.
