SINKING ROAD DANGER TO MOTORISTS

-

SUNGAI BULOH: Residents living along Jalan Subang Bestari are concerned for their safety as the main road in that area is sinking.

A complainant, who wants to be identified as Bob, said the road condition in Persiaran Atmostera, Seksyen U5, Shah Alam, had worsened day by day.

“It is really terrifying as I have witnessed a few accidents that could have been avoided if the road was in good condition,” he said.

The sinking road, Bob said, was near the Petaling District Government Office Complex.

He asked why nothing had been done by the Public Works Department.

Ikatan Silaturahim Brotherhood founder Azlan Sani Zawawi, 42, said accidents involving motorists happened weekly at the location.

“Residents in the area try to avoid the sinking road, but outsiders who do not know about it will most likely get themselves injured,” he said, urging the local authorities to do something about it.

“We believe that the poor drainage system in this area is the main cause of the sinking road,” he said.

He urged the authorities, especially the Shah Alam City Council and Public Works Department, to solve the problem immediately.

ACTIONLINE:

According to a Public Works Department spokesman, the road in question is under the Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) jurisdiction.

However, a MBSA spokesman said the road belonged to the developer of the housing estate.

“For public safety, we have blocked the road off until it is repaired by the developer,” he said.

The developer, Worldwide Holdings Bhd, said Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) was currently at the site to rectify the sewage problems.

“After the IWK completes repairing the sewage pipes, we will fix the road,” said a Worldwide Holdings spokesman, adding that work would be done as soon as possible.
