ADINNER outing for a family at a restaurant in Balok here turned into a nightmare when their 5-year-old daughter was scalded on her back after a waiter accidentally spilt a bowl of hot tom yam soup on her.

In the 9.30am incident, the girl’s father, who wanted only to be known as Zack, said he was at the restaurant counter when he heard his daughter screaming.

“She was in pain and there were some soup stains on her back. I immediately brought her to the sink to wash them off and noticed the back of her neck was scalded,” he said, adding that he rushed her to a nearby clinic.

Zack said he was discussing with family members and friends on the next course of action against the restaurant operator.

The incident has gone viral after the girl’s mother shared images from the incident on her Facebook page, where she claimed that a restaurant worker had spilt the soup while delivering it to a nearby table.

She said the victim was about to take a seat when she suddenly screamed in pain.

It is learnt that the girl is traumatised following the incident. However, she is reported to be in a stable condition.

Sara Thai Kitchen branch manager Mohd Zanafi Wahab, 39, apologised to the family over the incident.

He said he wanted the matter to be resolved as there was confusion due to allegations on social media.

He said he was shocked when images from the incident began circulating on social media, and claimed that misleading information on the issue could tarnish the restaurant’s image.

“I did not notice when the incident happened and only realised it when the family left the restaurant in a hurry.

“I asked them what happened and they told me about the incident.

“I tried to apologise and politely handed RM200 to the father. I never threw the money at them as alleged,” he said, adding that he was prepared to meet the family to ask for forgiveness and clear the air on the incident.
