ADRUG addict driving a white Perodua Myvi attempted to kidnap a teenager here on Thursday, and may have attempted the same on two other women earlier.

However, the 34-year-old man failed miserably and he was beaten up by an angry mob after his third victim, a teenage girl, escaped from his moving car.

The drama occurred at 8.45pm when the suspect approached Fatin Nazwin Indra, 15, near a sundry shop in Bukit Samsu here.

Fatin Nazwin said she was with relatives when the suspect drove up to her.

“He told me that he needed help with the car’s bumper as it was damaged, and he was telling the truth as the bumper was indeed damaged.

“However, he bundled me into his car and drove away. I saw an opportunity to escape because the door was unlocked.

“As I escaped, he held onto my clothes, but I jumped out. That was how I injured my hand, leg and body. The man looked like he was under the influence of drugs.”

Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Ahsmon Bajah said after the victim escaped, several passers-by gave chase.

The suspect drove off, but crashed into a rubber tree.

On realising what had taken place, members of the public took matters into their own hands before a police patrol car arrived to take the suspect away.

Jefri Sukmar, 45, said he had pursued the suspect on his motorcycle with two others.

He said his singlet was torn in a scuffle with the suspect.

Meanwhile, college student Aqila Rahmat, 20, and a friend also had a harrowing experience when the man, allegedly from the same Myvi, tried to crash into them at the Mersing-Kota Tinggi trunk road earlier in the day.

The 5.20pm incident on Thursday happened when Aqila, riding her motorcycle with her friend riding pillion, was travelling home to Kulai from Tenggaroh, Mersing.

“I noticed a Myvi tailing us. “The car came so close to my motorcycle that I almost hit it.

“I asked the driver what was his problem, but he kept looking at my friend.

“When we reached a petrol station in Jalan Mawai, Kota Tinggi, I called 999.

“A police team escorted us back to the Kota Tinggi police station where we lodged a report.

“My friend had snapped a photo of the Myvi, which I posted on my family’s WhatsApp group and social media to warn others.”

Ahsmon said the suspect had committed two previous drug-related offences and was arrested to assist in investigations under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.

He said police would determine if the suspect had been involved in any previous kidnapping cases.
