‘No need to protest as party has no option’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need for DAP to protest being directed to hold its Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election as the party has no option but to carry on with it.

Former Kedah DAP chairman Lee Guan Aik said like it or not, the re-election had to be done as soon as possible as the general election was drawing near.

“What is there to protest? It is high time for DAP to follow the directive from the Registry of Societies’ (RoS) as they are running out of time.

“It is unnecessary to do it under protest because RoS is the highest authority to ensure the proper running of all societies and political parties.”

Lee, who claimed he was unfairly removed from his post three years ago, said DAP leadership would have no choice but to call in those in the 2012 CEC delegates list, including those who were terminated or disqualified.

Former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim said DAP’s move to comply with RoS’ directive under protest came as no surprise to him.

“What is essentially a matter of compliance has been turned into a national issue. This is purely a party problem and RoS had legitimate requirements,” he added.

DAP leader and former Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu said the party was not afraid of holding a re-election.

He said everything the party did was in black and white and in accordance with the law.

Liu added that it was RoS that had been dragging its feet and not DAP.

“They were unprofessional and inefficient.

“Otherwise, RoS would not have taken almost four years to instruct DAP to hold a re-election of the party’s CEC,” he said.
