AMOTHER of 12 thought that her two daughters were making up stories when they told her that their teenage brother had forced himself on them.
The unemployed teenager, 18, had denied accusations by his sisters, aged 9 and 14, when their mother confronted him over the matter.
Instead of alerting the police, the woman, 39, from Sungai Layar here, chose not to pursue the matter and warned her son not to touch his sisters again.
But, when a third daughter, 8, told of being raped by the same brother on Wednesday, the woman realised that it was no joking matter. On Thursday, she took her son to lodge a report at the Sungai Petani police station.
Yesterday, police arrested the teen when he came to the Kuala Muda police headquarters to facilitate investigations.
Kuala Muda district police deputy chief Superintendent Saifi Abdul Hamid said the girl said her brother had allegedly dragged her into a vacant house next door in Kampung Pulau Tiga at 8pm on Wednesday and raped her.
He said the teen was being investigated under Section 376B of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 30 years’ jail and caning, if convicted.
He said initial investigations revealed that the two earlier victims in the family had raised the alarm with their mother, but she hesitated to believe that their brother would do such a thing.
“It was not until the 8-year-old related her ordeal to their mother that the woman decided to lodge a report.”
Saifi said the sisters claimed that their brother warned them not to tell anyone or he would beat them up.
“We have sent the three sisters for medical examinations. We will apply for a remand order on the teen tomorrow (today).”
He said the siblings’ father was a labourer while their mother was a housewife.
