Escalator girl getting better

IN NORMAL WARD: She‘s out of the ICU

A3-YEAR-OLD girl who fell from an escalator and sustained critical injuries two weeks ago here is recovering well.

Penang Hospital director Datuk Dr Norsidah Ismail said yesterday that Nur Akilah Amani Zuraimi Hashim was out of the intensive care unit at the paediatric ward.

“The girl is recuperati­ng in the normal ward now. Her condition is improving and there has been interactio­n with her parents.”

She said no date had been set for her discharge and it would depend on her healing rate.

It was reported that the toddler sustained a crack in her skull and had massive internal bleeding after she fell from an escalator at a shopping complex in Bukit Jambul here on Oct 16.

when Nur Akilah Amani was sitting on her father’s shoulders as they got on the escalator.

Moments later, the child was seen in a closed-circuit television footage falling to the ground floor from the first floor, just inches away from the escalator’s handrail. It was uploaded onto social media platforms.

Her father was upset when the media approached him after the mishap and ordered reporters to leave.
