CLEAN SWEEP:Tammy leads charge as opposition have no answers

AS promised, the Federal Territories girls made a clean sweep in rhythmic gymnastics yesterday.

After winning the team gold comfortably on Monday, the FT Angels made a sweep of four gold in the individual events.

The biggest winner was Tammy Ng Jia Wen, who won gold in the ball and hoop, to bring her total to three. She will receive a whopping RM13,000 for three days work, RM5,000 for each individual gold and RM3,000 for the team title.

When asked what she will be doing with the windfall, the 14-yearold said: “I will put it in the bank for my future.”

She is not only prudent but intelligent with the ball and hoop, performing with confidence to sail away with the gold medals.

The other FT gold medals came from Nur Naieme Zainul in the clubs, and Ryana Hoh Khai Ling in the rope.

All four are national athletes and performed to Sea Games standards, while the other states sent in novice entries.

The sport almost did not make it to the Games — FT were far ahead of the competition — but a strong lobby saw it being included at the 11th hour.

Tammy, however, denied that the clean sweep was easily achieved.

“It might look easy from the outside, but we had to endure many hours of training before perfecting our routines,” said a smiling Tammy.

Sarawak won a surprise bronze, when their athlete Emilie Nara Jabu was tied on 12.750 with Selangor’s Tai Ushyan in the clubs.

The women’s kata gold was won by Ariana Lim, Chang Jun Yi and Khaw Yee Voon.
