Municipal Council allocates plots to address labor housing problem

-

KUWAIT CITY, July 7: A number of Municipal Council members confirmed that the council has played its role in addressing the labor housing issue by allocating plots and handing them over to the concerned government agencies, reports Al-Rai daily.

The council members told the daily that the council is ready to hold an emergency meeting to discuss this issue and present plausible solutions, on the condition that the concerned institutions implement the proposed establishment of labor housing cities.

Deputy Chairman of the Council Khaled Mufleh Al-Mutairi stated that the council is keen on solving the labor housing problem through the allocation of plots for this purpose.

He urged the concerned government agencies to expedite the completion of the proposed labor housing cities, because they will contribute significantly to solving the problems of workers residing in investment, private and model housing areas.

He asserted: “We have warned many times in the past that the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh problem is a ticking bomb. We might witness a recurrence of the Mangaf building fire if we do not implement the solutions presented by committees tasked to deal with the issue.”

Council member Fahd Al-Abduljader stressed that the council will not delay, regardless of the circumstances, taking any step to solve the problem in order to protect lives, even if it necessitates holding an emergency meeting. He clarified that “the problem is not only about the regulations or laws, as the real

issue is the implementation.”

Council member Walid Al-Dagher said the council’s role is to allocate plots for labor housing and it has already done its part through the allocation of many plots, which were handed over to the concerned entities.

Council member Fahd Al-Khanain stressed the need for the council to provide the necessary health and living facilities in the labor housing cities for Kuwait to be worthy of emulation, away from the slums that tarnish the reputation of the country and its people.

Council member Abdullah Al-Enezi affirmed that the council plays an important role in studying privatization requests, specifically those related to integrated labor cities and the extent of the requesting party’s commitment to all conditions that serve humanity.

He pointed out that the labor housing cities must be developed to reduce pressure on investment and commercial housing areas, some of which seem to have violated the laws.
