‘Kuwait, Iraq ties to improve’

-

“THE reconstruction of Iraq is a Kuwaiti initiative that has contributed to attracting international attention,” columnist, professor at Kuwait University’s Political Science Department and the Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Information wrote for

daily. “This is one of the many initiatives which have been launched by Kuwait to promote benevolence among the people, and eventually secure the region and economic diplomacy, which believes that the best solution to end conflicts rests in turning them into economic partnerships and mutual dependence between the two parties.

“However, what distinguishes the Kuwaiti initiative is that it falls within one of the most important bilateral relations of Kuwait and one of the neighboring countries.

“In this connection we say, the history of Kuwait and Iraq is fraught with tensions and encroachments to such an extent the relations between the two countries reached to a level of blanket fiasco and this coincided with the Iraqi invasion of the State of Kuwait in 1990.

“Therefore, the reconstruction of Iraq is in fact the reconstruction of Kuwaiti/Iraqi relations as well.

“In other words, what is currently taking place in the State of Kuwait looks like a demonstration, which is interacted with all parties, institutions, ministries, government and private sectors, and more importantly it has the international dimension because of the contribution of the foreign and private sector firms which talk about real reconstruction and investment.

“In this connection, we recall how Condoleezza Rice (the former US Secretary of State) had talked about a reconstruction process, but this ended as the biggest fraud in the history because it was accompanied by corruption and struggle among foreign firms in Iraq.

“Not only that, all these firms suspended their activities in the face of terrorism, extremism, the pursuing the remnants of the Al-Baath (the former ruling party of Saddam Hussein) in addition to divisions in Iraq.

“But the initiative for the reconstruction of Iraq comes from a party which has strategic interests for the stability of Iraq because the latter will positively reflect on the stability of the State of Kuwait and this was remarkably evident through the contribution of the Kuwaiti charity societies in the area of investment and rebuilding. .

“It is undoubtedly, a big and a significant opportunity, but this should be based on concentrating on the concept of investment in dealing with the essence of the rebuilding process.

“Iraq is not a poor country which is in need of funds, but a country that occupies an important position within the oil exporting countries

“This means reconstruction, creative opportunities and rebuilding the future is the issue of a genuine international vision, orientation and incubator that seeks to transform this region into a safe area instead of leaving it as a swamp of terrorism, extremism and disarmament, often in order to export terrorism and terrorists to other places and in various missions to lead wars here and there on behalf of other parties.

“However, the positive signs are what we see with the start of this global demonstration, which must be embraced by the international community and be based on investment instead of assistance and joint work instead of assistance extended by a sole party on one hand, especially in a sensitive relationship such as with Iraq, which must be built with much caution and flexibility — the relationship of building eternal trust, not just an immediate interest, which can quickly disappear.”

“Yes, we Kuwaitis host a conference to reconstruct a country whose army in 1990 occupied our country,” columnist wrote for daily.

“Personally, I do not see a political contradiction in the image of the above paragraph, as some might think, for the simple reason that politics unlike individuals do not believe in hatreds and grudges and politics do not believe in retaliation as among people.

“This is only for those who want to measure relations between States as a measure of interpersonal relations. Iraq is ultimately a geographical neighbor with which we share our entire northern border, and homelands.

“For those who measure relations between nations as a measure of interpersonal relations do not leave their homes in case of harassment by a neighbor. We have to deal with it as a geographic neighbor in the north.

“It is rather natural that geographic or political borders are unchangeable. Moreover, they will not be changed at all. In other words, Iraq is for us a reality and as such we have to deal with it as a northern geographic neighbor and keep in mind that the stability of the entire region shall remain the most import thing be that Iraq or Iran or the Gulf simply because the stability of this part of the world, is actually a stability for us and this shall benefit and also the other ‘party’.

“In other words, any political defect or imbalance in any place in any of the Gulf countries either situated in the northern, eastern or western part will negatively reflect on us in the same volume. Hence, it is natural, and necessary for us to be a feeder among the feeders of stability of Iraq.

“The issue here does not depend on the mood, it rather falls within the duty that shall foremost help serve our national security. Hence Kuwait’s hosting of the conference for the reconstruction of Iraq is part of our contribution as a state to push for the stability of the region — the reconstruction which is led by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad.

“The participation of 70 countries in the conference is only a political diplomatic success for the Amir, thanks to his deep diplomatic policy, which has succeeded in transforming our country into a major axis in all peace and reconstruction processes in the region.”

“Manipulation of medical test results of expatriate workers and issuance of fake health certificates can result in devastation in the country through the spread of diseases that we citizens have never seen here,”

wrote for daily. “These expatriate laborers pay bribes to pass the relevant medical tests. This issue is not as simple as we would imagine. It is actually a new form of invasion that targets the health of citizens. It is very dangerous to remain silent about this matter. It will end up increasing the burden on hospitals and result in mass devastation of the entire nation. It is not worth feeling sympathetic about the poor expatriates who paid a lot of money for getting a visa to Kuwait.

“The gang that was arrested is not the first one and will not be the last. This gang practiced its manipulation using professional methods. The members did not take into consideration the interest of the country that hosted them. They did not mind committing such serious crimes for the sake of earning money with absolute thoughtlessness for the interest of the country.

“Let us compare the cost of treating these diseased expatriate workers in the country with the amount they pay as health insurance. Our state-run hospitals are filled with patients who are seeking treatment for the diseases they brought with them from their countries. Once they recover, they will return back to those countries. It seems Kuwait has become quarantine for these people to receive free medical care.

“The arrested members of the gang include a taxi driver, a security guard, two mandoubs, a woman and a health inspector. It is ironic that they are living in Kuwait and enjoying various benefits while helping people with contagious diseases enter the country at a cost of KD 1,000 per person.

“Only God knows how much it will cost us to treat those patients as well as citizens who are infected by the diseases these people bring. I urge the concerned authorities to take all necessary actions to confront such crimes. Like the way we previously called for rectifying the demographic imbalance, we now call for disposing human carriers of such dangerous diseases who bring epidemics into our country, even if the solution means subjecting all expatriates to intensive medical tests without any exceptions.”

“Just after the new government was announced and confidence on HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak was renewed, the Parliament embarked on a pursuit to grill Minister of Social, Labor and Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh that went up to the level of pushing for vote of no-confidence from which she emerged victorious,” columnist

wrote for daily. “The speed of the parliamentarians’ push for the grilling of the minister was amazing. Without any doubt, it was at the expense of other issues which could be more important and need fast-track approach.

“Nonetheless, it appears that the parliamentarians are regrouping for a major confrontation with the government. I do not wish to see this. Instead, the government must be given ample time to deliver, and such time will also give parliamentarians a better oversight material.

“Citizens of this country wish to see aspirations being addressed through progressive steps taken by the executive and legislative authorities. They should find solutions to problems that the country and its people are facing.

“Issues such as unemployment, health services, education, housing welfare, economic and social development, and even diversification of income sources, among several other vital and pressing issues, should be on the top of the agenda, in addition to giving relevant institutions enough time to perform and work for the sake of Kuwait and the future of its people.”

“Amid the rough and evil waves hitting the Arab world and the sad stories about killings and displacement, a whisper of wisdom was heard in a verdict issued by a Christian Lebanese judge,” columnist

wrote for daily. “The story published by Al-Rai daily entails a verdict the Christian Lebanese judge slammed on three Muslim youths who insulted Mary, the mother of Jesus (PBUH). Instead of sentencing the youths to imprisonment, the wise judge ordered them to memorize Al-Imran Surah of the Holy Qu’ran.

“The verdict conveys a strong message, considering the fact that the judge did not stick to items of the law but reasoned beyond his practice and gave priority to social stability and unity among citizens, considering the young age of the convicts.

“The judge’s action made the convicts realized how little they know about their own religion of Islam. The judge obliged them to read and memorize Al-Imran Surah to understand the extent Qu’ran at which Mother Mary and Jesus Christ (PBUH), are honored alongside Imran (Joachim) who is the father of Mother Mary and the grandfather of Jesus Christ (PBUH). She wanted them to know that Qu’ran includes a Surah dedicated to Mother Mary.

“Today, we are in urgent need of wisdom to tame blood thirsty and sectarian inclined youths who leave no stone unturned in their bid to commit crime. Allah the Almighty does not want us to kill each other. He did not send His messengers to preach death and destruction but how to live in peace and harmony. Almighty God created different peoples and tribes and races so that we may know each other and live together in peace.”

“In the Islamic concept, Muslims means a single nation and a united society and whatever they have belongs to everybody. The Glorious Qu’ran and pure Sunnah affirm this unity by reiterating that believers are brothers sharing their problems, fate and issues without consideration for differences in gender, race and sect,” wrote for daily.

“This unity is not about mere words and slogans meant for propaganda. It calls for practical application at different levels of economic, military and political duties during calamities and disaster. Islam urges individuals to have good relationship with others within the society, and specifies the nature of the relationship amid its worldly and heavenly effects.

“The relationship among believers should be that of brotherliness, and each Muslim must advice the other like his own sibling in sincerity of love and respect. He should also try his best to be useful and protect his Muslim brother against evil, as expected of every Muslim. This noble passion is a brotherly feeling that should be complemented with action to show the trait of Islam in his dealings with individual members of the society.”
