‘Some parties seeking to tear down Kuwait’s social fabric’
Prosecution to continue detention of 5 tied to Hezb
KUWAIT CITY, July 31: A total of 107 Kuwaiti Shiite clerics and leading personalities issued a statement on Sunday, calling for vigilance and wisdom in dealing with the issues and challenges facing the country, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
They, along with some current and former MPs and ministers, highlighted the presence of parties within the Kuwaiti society that are seeking to strike national unity and tear down the social Kuwaiti fabric by continuing to incite sectarianism.
They lamented over the repeated failure of the government in playing a vital role for consolidating national unity.
They said, “Turning a blind eye to these actions by the government will negatively affect the relations between a fundamental component of the society and the society at large.
The government must support and fulfill the interests of the homeland by protecting it. The Kuwaiti community would not have existed without its multiple components in confronting external regional mishaps which often reflect internally through differences between the views of Kuwaitis. However, the safety of social security is always shared between them. This fact has been evident in all aspects of the old and modern political history of Kuwait, despite the fact that some events may be accompanied by unfair targeting by some parties that do not embrace the spirit of national responsibility through their unfair prejudiced practices and their use of the language of exclusion and betrayal towards their partners in the nation.
One of the most striking odious examples is the circumstances accompanying the Iran-Iraq war in the 80’s, whereby some parties exploited and unjustly attacked one of the main social components. However, the truth emerged with the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait whereby the blood of all Kuwaitis was mixed with all its components, creating a noble liberation.
Tensions
Today, in light of the serious tensions witnessed across the region and the vital role being played by His Highness the Amir to heal the rift among the GCC countries as well as to protect Kuwait and the region from the stormy repercussions, it is surprising to see that there are parties within our society that are seeking to strike and tamper with national unity, as well as tear apart social cohesion by continuing sectarian targeting and incitement over and over again. This would not have happened without the environment that incubates ideas of hatred oblivious to the consequences of this abhorrent sectarian attack and in light of the government’s repeated failure to play a serious and decisive role in consolidating national unity through tangible media and educational programs.
From the so-called “Abdali Cell” case, the same sad scene has emerged and become an opportunity for various parties to exploit this issue politically. The most heinous exploitation is that it is subjected to regional desires, sometimes political conflicts and battles to prove their presence and sometimes used as an opportunity to distract from their scandals against the rights of the country”.
They called for the need to fear Allah and ensure justice and equality when applying the law without infringing on the rights of citizens under any pretext.
Meanwhile, the issue of Abdali cell escapees has been having multi-dimensional effects at various angles, considering the new decision taken by Saudiowned ARAMCO company in charge of the joint Saudi-Kuwaiti project in Khafji to start implementation of the fingerprint attendance system for citizens of the two countries, reports AlSeyassah daily.
The daily quoting a source noted the fingerprint system is connected to the Saudi Ministry of Interior Automation System to monitor the entry and exit of employees. He said the Saudi authorities decided the step was necessary when the final judgment on the Abdali cell case indicted an employee of the company who works for Kuwait Gulf Oil Company, which represents Kuwaiti interest at the project.
Exposed
He stated the decision has exposed some secrets, as it became known that some of the approximately 1000 Kuwaiti personnel at the project were not punctual for several years, while they collect salaries worth millions of dinars. It also uncovered that employees of Kuwait Gulf Oil Company did not have record of entry and exit at the border, especially as entry into Khafji requires a pass to be shown 20 kilometers away from the border.
In order to complete the investigation, the Public Prosecution on Sunday decided to continue the detention of five individuals who are accused of being affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah party and providing shelter to the fugitives of the “Abdali Cell” case, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting informed sources.
They said the prosecution revealed the investigation results, and charged the suspects with sheltering the suspects based on instructions from the party leadership in Lebanon, adding that the case filed against them is a “State Security case”.
The sources indicated that the defendants denied the charges against them in detail, adding that the rest of the suspects are expected to be referred by Ministry of Interior soon.
In meantime, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah will issue decision soon to refer three officers of rank “Majors General” for retirement, reports Al-Rai daily quoting high-ranking sources.
They revealed that the decision of the minister came after laxity in some security sectors was exposed especially after the “Al-Abdali Cell” case and its repercussions on the security systems.
The sources affirmed the keenness of the minister concerning discipline in the military and security sectors by all affiliates of various ranks in consideration of the surrounding challenges that require caution.
